Yes, you can study at Alert Levels 3 & 4!

It is a very frustrating time for everybody when cases in Auckland are increasing and small non-essential businesses remain shut. However NZ Laser Training Institute strongly suggests that you use this time wisely and study while it is quite. During quite time in lockdown you can complete a course in a few easy days, rather than stretching it out over 6 long busy weeks when your salon is fully booked.

We have specifically prepared a list of courses that you can undertake during different alert levels. Some of our courses also have a self-enrolment option, therefore you can start them anywhere and any time.

Its far more complicated than this and you will need to make sure if you are working in the greater Auckland region, you meet the Auckland Council Health & Hygiene bylaw 2013.

Please consider taking our short paid presentation which gives you all the answers, and you can take your time and make your notes

Certification vs Qualification

Essentially the reality is that anyone can issue you with a ‘certification’ - meaning they give you a certificate. NZ Laser Training Institute being a recognised and accredited NZQA education provider, means our certifications are held at high regard, and we also have international accreditation. The same cannot be said for other certificate providers; so you should find out more about who is signing off your certificate. (It could be a sales rep, a truck driver or a scientist). A ‘qualification’ has become more complicated to explain; however the definition is still the same. Only accredited providers registered under NZQA offering qualifications (based on unit standards) on the NZQA framework, can issue you with a ‘qualification’. The newer term being used is a ‘Micro-credential’, which technically isn’t a qualification, but more a ‘training scheme that is NZQA approved and accredited’ and attracts credits. These credits are lodged against your New Zealand Record of Achievement (NZRoA) at NZQA. In short be wary of companies claiming they offer a ‘qualification’ or use the term incorrectly or in a misleading way as it is unfair and illegal under the Education & Training Act 2020. At present the NZQA approved Micro-credential we exclusively provide is the highest level of certification you can obtain in IPL & Laser in New Zealand. For information on our micro-credential: https://www.nzlasertraining.co.nz/nzqa

Time to renew your Laser Safety Certificate (LSC)

How often should you renew your Laser Safety Certificate? NZ Laser Training Institute recommends every 3 years is appropriate as the regulations in place are updated, and as new information comes to light. The AS/NZS safety standard. 4173 was updated in April 2018, so if your haven’t completed a safety programme in a while, it’s time to renew. Choose from LSC for beauty , LSC-Med or LSC Vascular surgical, plus once you have completed this foundation programme why not carry on with Laser Health & safety Officer (LHSO) which outlines how laser workplaces in NZ relate to the Health & Safety legislation here everyone must abide by.

Consumers could be making their hair growth worse by using home IPL or Laser devices

Use of sub-therapeutic energy devices (those that produce less fluence than in-clinic professional machines) have been proven to cause a form of stimulation.

If hairs are not completely destroyed by both the heat produced and adequately reached by the wavelength, then hairs will simply be encouraged into dormancy. After the client stops using the home IPL or Laser hair removal device, the hairs will return to baseline (like before they started) and in some cases more hair has then continued to grow. This situation can be reported as light induced hypertrichosis.

Professional salon or in-clinic devices are typically able to produce higher peak power coupled with a deeper reaching wavelength in order to completely shut down the hair growth process.
