Our mission since 2011, was to raise the IPL and Laser education, and development standards for our industry, for the safety and benefit of consumers, and for operator safety.

The concept of bringing this quality assessment tool, to the New Zealand Beauty Industry, was first pitched by Ruth Nicholson (from NZ Laser Training) to the NZ Association of Registered Beauty Professionals (formerly known as NZ Association of Registered Beauty Therapists) in 2015. The verdict, at the time; was that it was still only vaguely understood, and would be too challenging to implement; without substantial debate, and monitoring – but overall, it was thought that it could be beneficial for the industry.

In 2021, we were still waiting for industry to move forward; so NZ Laser Training Institute (NZLT), is going it alone.

CPD points (Continuing Professional Development) is the formal means of measuring, the amount of professional development, and competencies, obtained by those in a particular industry.

NZLT Institute feels the beauty and medical aesthetic Industries, which are now formally recognised under the Healthcare sector; would be a safer place for consumers seeking IPL and Laser Technicians, who meet high benchmark criteria.

Official notification - NZLT Institutes ‘CPD’ points system is now available

With Technology and Technological Developments changing the nature of our Industry, along with constant alterations, to devices and techniques, ongoing education and development is incredibly important.

The introduction of our NZLT Institutes CPD points system will raise the professionalism, and credibility of industry practitioners, and allows consumers to verify that the individual, has completed minimum unit standards of IPL and Laser training, reducing risk to the consumer.

In the future, other training providers, and professional accredited skin therapy boards, may like to align to our system, for a cohesive and streamlined educational record of learning that can be underpinned by our NZQA accredited status.

Having our own CPD point system means that our vast database of trained, and formally certified Laser and IPL operators, who have completed training with us since 2011 can apply CPD points immediately.

More information about the benefits of taking part in this CPD point project will be revealed in good time, as we finalise our backend management systems.
